Variety is reporting that Gary Ross has come aboard to rewrite the script for Spider-Man 4.
Gary Ross wrote and directed Seabiscuit and Pleasantville, both of which starred Spider-Man lead Tobey Maguire. Sam Raimi will again direct the Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios project that will go into production early next year.
The Spider-Man 4 script was originally written by James Vanderbilt, and then rewritten by David Lindsay-Abaire.
The second installment also had several writers that began with Smallville duo Alfred Gough and Miles Millar before switching hands to Michael Chabon. The film finally ended up in the hands of Alvin Sargent who finalized the script.
The fourth installment is scheduled for a May 6, 2011 release.

Deadline New York is reporting that Darren Aronofsky and Darren Slade are now the front runners to direct Wolverine 2 for 20th Century Fox. Marvel continued posting episodes from Avengers: United They Stand, next up is episode 12. Marvel has posted the fifth episode from season five of Spider-Man: The Animated Series. A new trailer for Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes has appeared on Veoh, which shows an extended look at the villains and story. Ace Showbiz posted photos from Trafalgar Square where Captain America: The First Avenger was filming a Victory in Europe Day. ScreenRant is reporting that 20th Century Fox is looking at Adrien Brody and Jonathan Rhys Meyers for the role of Reed Richards in their Fantastic Four reboot. Ain't It Cool News talked to X-Men: First Class producer Bryan Singer who revealed Kevin Bacon's role and more storyline details about the upcoming film. Vulture, a New York Magazine blog, is reporting that Fox has narrowed down the Wolverine 2 director choices to David Slade and Robert Schwentke. Marvel continued posting episodes from Avengers: United They Stand, next up is episode 11. Heat Vision has received a shortlist of actresses who are in contention for Marc Webb's Spider-Man. Comic Book Movie is reporting that Alice Eve, who was originally cast as Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class, asked to release from her contract due to script changes. Marvel has released the first trailer for Spider-Man: Total Mayhem, which will be released on September 2nd for the iPhone. According to Marvel, Dormammu and Viewtiful Joe have joined the roster of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds.
